French Riviera by Sylvia Haghjoo

What is it about the German fashion-blogger, Sylvia Haghjoo of Hug-You that perfectly captures the very essence of a summer getaway? You be the judge as Haghjoo travels across the South of France. “It has attracted aristocracy, artists and actors for years, drawn by the sumptuous establishments, the sensual coastline and the unique light”, says our muse of her travels from St. Tropez, Antibes to the lesser known idylls of Éze, Vence and Menton. Lackadaisical afternoons spent in a matching saccharine-silhouetted set conjure instant French Riviera elegance. Simple luxuries toeing the shoreline needn’t more than a bandeau maillot. Luxuriously cut and cheekily-printed, it’s the perfect antidote to a playful dip into the beckoning sea below. An oasis of earthly delights finds its match in sumptuous silk camisoles and delicately demure skirts, for an unforgettable holiday in the sun.

What’s your favorite Marysia swimsuit?

I can’t help but gravitate towards the high-waist Mexico bottom and matching hand-cut zig zag cap-sleeved top —because of its high-waist fit, it makes it super comfortable to wear. Not to mention, sleek and flattering on the eyes.

What is your style advice for vacation packing?

I always strive to pack two-to-three swimsuits. I typically veer towards bikinis since they easily lend themselves to mix-and-matching and creating the illusion of having that many more suits to wear on a summer trip. Just be sure to pick ones that fit exceptionally well and are ready for any mood on a given day. But that’s not all, swimwear with varied silhouettes helps to avoid tan lines. I never travel without SPF 50 Sun Drops by Dr. Barbara Sturm. Lastly, I make sure to have some tunics and floaty dresses in my suitcase too—versatile cover-ups make poolside lunches and chillier evenings effortlessly chic.

What are your five packing essentials this summer?

You will find more than five must-have essentials on me, always. No matter what, my suitcase is always stuffed to the brim. What I can say is that I never leave home without an airy simple cotton piece (or two) with me. I especially love to wear linen in the summer. And, then there’s off-the-shoulder tops, denim shorts, long skirts, and dresses. I can also always justify packing a selection of flats along too, since they take up so little space verses winter boots and heels.

What were some highlights during your trip to the south of France?

Everything feels like a highlight when you’re in the South of France. The way the light hits the ocean waters, the sweet smell of fresh flowers—everything is pure elegance. The French Riviera really is the full package.

Any tips for a first-time visitor?

For anyone heading to the Côte d’Azur, I highly recommend visiting at least one of their many museums. I love the Musée Picasso in Antibes, and the Musée Matisse in Nice. I also suggest checking out the Fondation Maeght‘s Jardin Exotique—a beyond charming garden between Eze and Monaco. And, not to forget, the Palais Bulles Villa Pierre Cardin. It’s the perfect setting and backdrop for an afternoon of picture-taking.

Speaking of photography, any insight into taking great photos?

Make sure to observe the lighting. To get the best out of natural light, I photograph manually. I found that the Côte d’Azur’s sunrises and sunsets are especially magical. They make it almost too easy to take stellar photographs.
